BlazBlue: Another Sony Exclusive Lost?

BlazBlue: Another Sony Exclusive Lost?

BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger is the newest 2d fighter from Arc System Works and the pseudo successor to their Guilty Gear series. When the game was first announced it was announced for the arcade and later the PS3 for its console version, much like many games did before the Xbox 360 was thought viable in markets outside the US. An article piqued my interest calling Blazblue “A Ps3 exclusive lost”. First of all, it was announced for the PS3 at a time where people did not think that there was a market for fighting games on the Xbox360. Secondly, ASW’s major competitors(Capcom and SNK) have both announced their brand new blockbuster fighting games for both consoles. From Arc’s and SNK’s perspective they’ve just seen only but a mere 2 weeks ago that Capcom has released Street Fighter 4 that sold like hot cakes on the Xbox360; If I’m either of them I believe I would take both consoles over PS3 exclusivity any day of the week. Secondly Sony USA treated ASW and SNK games like crap during the duration of the PS2’s life cycle. At the beginning it was all well and good to release their games just as it is now. However during the meat of the PS2 life cycle,

Sony USA would not allow 2d games to be released unless they were part of collection minus RPGs which, if you’re not aware of who SNK and ASW are, 2d games that are not RPGs are the bulk of their production. When Street Fighter 4, The King of Fighters XII, and EVEN Tekken 6: Blood Rebellion were announced as multi-platform titles, it should be a given at this point that fighting games will be multi-platform. If you were surprised at all the BlazBlue would be coming to the Xbox360 then you probably aren’t too business savvy. As you can see from the article that was written on this site about The King of Fighter’s XII when it was first announced for the PS3 in the summer. I say the day before the announcement that we would most likely see a 360 release. It’s not a surprise anymore, if you’re running a business you have to follow your competitors or else they have something over you. This is one of the many great things about fighting games, you won’t find them too involved in the silly politics of the console war, they’re made available wherever there’s a market as opposed to FPSs and RPGs.
