Home = MySimSpace

Home = MySimSpace

DISCLAIMER: I’m not going to mention anything regarding the XBOX Live Feature on the 360, and if you came here to read about comparisons then you should leave because I don’t own a 360, therefore I know nothing about XBOX Live.

Looking for a way to waste your time and money? Well, Sony has a feature that will make you feel right at home. This feature offers a watered down, simulated life with little to no positives, yet people are eating this feature up.

Where else can you go where you have to pay for clothing and furniture? Oh, that would be in real life. Home offers free games and music to listen to along with Home spaces that all appear to be a complete….waste of time. When I am gaming, I want to get away from real-life, no matter how realistic the game or experience may be. When will Sony allow you to make purchases based on your trophy count for a particular game, or better yet, offer PSN games in the Home feature?

What Sony should do, is make an update for Go! Sports Ski and then make that playable on Home, along with High Velocity Bowling, the PixelJunk games, even WipeoutHD among other games. This would allow people who are on the fence about purchasing these games to see what they would be getting, plus it would give us a better reason to visit Home. And don’t offer a playable Demo, offer the actual gaming experience, minus DLC, but allow people to play against each other in the process so they can get the best idea of what they are potentially purchasing.

Now you’re probably asking: “But, The Don why would they purchase the game if it’s already available on Home?” Great question, for one people would want to play the game whenever they want to and not have to hope there is a spot open to play the game. Second of all, people in the real world have friends who would play these games with them, and this would be the perfect chance to promote two things: Great PSN Titles…and Home itself.

Instead of offering these idea’s I’ve suggested to broaden the horizons of Home, all they have shown is that they can combine MySpace and the Sims game. Making money off a gimmick that seems to have teenagers in a frenzy, which is nothing more than a cheap tactic in an attempt to capture a piece of the current trend.

I often hear about “New Home spaces” being delivered and I’ve taken the time to visit Home on a few of these occasions. These Home spaces are a complete yawn fest and all I see is what people who talk about Home say every time, being “There’s always one girl with a group of guys fighting over each other to get her to come back to their Home space” Pathetic is one thing, but this is beyond pathetic especially when half of the time that “girl” is a guy who has some emotional issues that he needs to figure out. Either that or he has too much free time on his hands.

Home is clearly a way for Sony to make more money (obviously), but please, try to convince me that you want to offer more for your PS3 gaming community than for yourself. Try adding some of the games that I’ve mentioned earlier in the article as a playable option along with rewarding gamers for trophies earned, as this would only be a win-win for all parties involved.

All-in-all, Home is supposed to still be in it’s Beta phase, but how long is that supposed to be? They are charging people for things in  an unfinished product that they keep trying to push, but appear to be milking everything they can by charging prices like $2.50 for a shirt or a fancy table.

Until Home isn’t anything more than a complete waste of time, I will not even bother with it even though I want to take advantage of everything my Playstation 3 has to offer. But, Home is the most useless of them all and I’d rather spend my time Folding@Home rather using the Home feature that offers pretty much nothing worth looking forward to at this point other than a Home space that I’ll check out once and leave.
