In light of President Satoru Iwata of Nintendo Co. revealing that they are indeed working on the successor to the Wii, hardcore gamers are saying “it’s about time”. The Wii has proven to be a last gen console with motion sensing controls, and they are already improving that aspect as we speak.
The one thing that was missing all along is High Definition resolution, and with there being no Zelda game for the Wii until 2011, Nintendo might as well make that game a launch title for the next Wii along with….another Mario title and call it a day.
Nintendo may be behind in the aspect of HD gaming, obviously because they don’t even offer it, but they could be smart in this regard as they are waiting for more consumers to have their home set-up “HD Ready”. Not only could they re-release old games with motion controls, but they can throw in a HD-Remix and people will eat it up with a smile.
I’ve already stressed in prior articles and Vice Weekly podcast’s about how Nintendo could benefit from offering an HD Remix to older classics which include Mario Bros., Zelda, Metriod and Kid Icarus which are all exclusive titles.
I personally haven’t owned a Nintendo console since the Nintendo 64 and I would purchase the successor to the Wii with the gimmick motion controls and all if they even made a small blurb about Hd Remixing old classics. Maybe I’m a sucker for High Definition, but I love playing old classics and I love playing them in HD even more.
All I know is one thing, this new Nintendo console will offer High Definition resolution, and in my opinion they were half a generation late on this which might make them crazy….like a fox, because it certainly hasn’t hurt their sales.

Dude.. Don.. You should stfu
Dude….totally
Great article – I really hope they do have a proper HD console, if it wasn’t for Mario and Zelda I wouldn’t have purchased the Wii.
I agree. I had a Wii for about 6 months and got rid of it. The Wii has innovative technology on outdated hardware. Now with both the Xbox 360 and the PS3 getting their own motion controls (and far more advanced) there is no need in getting a Wii again. Which is what i was thinking of doing after seeing the new Tiger Woods demonstration for the Wii Motion Plus controls. So aside from a few games only available on the Wii like the upcoming Metroid (which looks fantastic) I won’t be missing much.
Nintendo are masters of selling old hardware with updated features, most recently the DSi.
No doubt they’ll offer a Wii HD, it’ll upscale existing games to 720 or 1080p, like can be done by pumping your Wii thru a PC.
They’ll do this before offering a Wii 2. Existing Wii owners and those like Don will lap it up.
Just like GameBoy and DS; Trade in a Wii for a Wii HD. The retailer loses out not Nintendo.
Got I love my Nintendo DSi, got it when it came out and haven’t regretted my purchase yet.
